Why Your Teen Keeps Repeating the Same Mistake
It’s not that they don’t care. And it’s not just defiance.
Most of the time, they don’t have the skill to do it differently yet.
Knowing what to do ≠ being able to do it in the moment. Especially with emotions, pressure, or impulse control involved. So the same mistake keeps happening.
Instead of more lectures, try this:
✔️ “What happened right before that choice?”
✔️ “What were you feeling in that moment?”
✔️ “What could you do next time?”
Keep the consequence but make it a learning moment, not just punishment.
Don’t just ask: “What’s wrong with them?”
Ask:👉 “What skill are they missing right now?”
