START HERE — Welcome to Wheelchair Women’s Life
Welcome to Wheelchair Women’s Life. This is a community for adult women who use wheelchairs, wherever in the world you happen to live. You do not need to use your wheelchair all the time. If it is a regular part of how you live your life, you belong here. The conversations here can be about almost any part of life. Work, clothes, relationships, home, energy, money, getting around, making plans, changing plans, asking for help, wanting more freedom or simply wanting something to work better than it does now. Wheelchair life affects all of those things in different ways, and often in ways that people around us never really see. This is not a medical or rehabilitation community. It is a place to talk about life as it actually is when a wheelchair is part of it. Start by saying hello in the comments. Tell us your name, where you are from and something you would like to get from being part of this community. Then have a look around and join any conversation that catches your interest. Our first live WWL workshop is on Sunday 25 October. You will find it in the Calendar, and it is included in Standard Free membership. We have a few simple community guidelines to help keep this a useful and respectful space. You can read them HERE, and we ask everyone to follow them. I’m glad you’re here. Åsa

What we do in here
Wheelchair life usually means becoming very good at making things work. Over time, we build routines, find our own ways of doing things and learn which arrangements are worth keeping. Some solutions stay with us for years simply because they work well enough. That does not always mean they still suit our lives. Something may be taking more energy than it is worth. An old solution may no longer fit the way you live now. Or there may be something you want to do, change or return to and you need to work out what would make it possible. That is the kind of thing we can explore here. Another woman may already have dealt with something similar. Hearing how somebody else approached it can reveal an option you had not considered. In other cases, the real obstacle is access, transport, money, somebody else’s decision or something outside your control. You do not need to come here with a problem. You can share something that works, ask a question, talk about something you are considering or join somebody else’s conversation. Wheelchair Women’s Life is meant to make room for the whole of life when a wheelchair is part of it.

The membership levels Standard and Premium
Wheelchair Women’s Life has two membership levels inside the same community. Standard membership is free. It gives you access to the community, the conversations here and our monthly live workshop. The workshop is a practical working session. You bring one real situation from your own life and use the session to work out what you want to do next. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟱 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿. Premium is for situations that need more than one simple next step. That might mean there are several options to weigh up, other people are involved, you need more information before deciding, or something you already tried did not work the way you hoped. Premium can also be useful when there is something new you want to make possible and put into action. Premium includes deeper tools and a monthly Workroom where we spend more time working through real situations together. Founding membership is $9 per month or $90 per year. Standard gives you a useful place to start. Premium is where you go when you want more depth and help turning something into action.

Welcome Merry, Ocona and Lisa
A warm welcome to @Merry Carlson and @Ocona Lloyd and @Lisa Buck, who joined Wheelchair Women’s Life today. I’m very glad you’re here. We are still a small community, which means you have arrived early enough to help shape what this place becomes. We are building this community around the parts of everyday life that are actually worth talking about when a wheelchair is part of it, and the conversations become better when more women bring in their own experiences, opinions and questions. So come and say hello in the comments. Tell us where in the world you are joining from, and one thing you would genuinely like to talk about with other wheelchair using women here. And please jump into the conversations already happening too. We want to hear from you. 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲.

What takes more effort than people realise?
What is one everyday thing that looks fairly simple from the outside but takes much more planning, time or energy when a wheelchair is part of it? It might be getting somewhere, shopping, dressing, cooking, working, arranging help or something completely different. A lot of wheelchair life sits in those details that never make it onto the calendar.
