Hey there. Welcome to the shit show. Jkjk.
I'm excited you're here. I'd also love to hear more about you. I may know you already, I may not - but either way, there's always something more to learn about someone.
- Where are you from?
- What do you love doing? (whether it's your career or just passion, up to you!)
- What's a lovely, strange fact about you?
As for me, for those of you who don't know, I'm a Buffalonian who currently lives just outside of Boston, MA. I spent the last decade being a firefighter paramedic before these darn keto noodles I ate (because I was a product of the diet and weight-loss culture) caused an unexpected emergency surgery where an acute bowel obstruction caused me to go septic quite fast... this led to another urgent surgery a few months later, which required a lot of "down time" where I wasn't allowed to move around a lot - which revealed some pretty terrible herniated discs in my back from not treating my body so well (and probably deadlifting 300lbs improperly).
After seeing a chiropractor to help the discs, I lost function in my right leg and had complete numbness and significant pain (who woulda thought you could have numbness and pain...) in my left leg. This led to back surgery, revealing that the chiropractor had not only worsened the discs, he ruptured them, causing pressure on my spinal cord. Three surgeries in 18 months.
All that to say, I had a LOT of time during recovery to think... and ruminate... and I realized that I had been giving away my power, time, and life to a system that never gave back. Whether it was work, the healthcare system, or other people, I realized that I was burned the f*ck out from not living the life that *I* was meant to live. I was sacrificing myself to a system that was relying on me continuing to give, while I was burning myself to the ground - no weekend could revitalize me, no vacation could help me feel better, no amount of money I made could make me feel more successful - my nervous system was fried and I needed a change.
I needed to burn the rulebook that I was living by and create my own. So I became a Certified Personal Trainer, a Holistic Nutrition Coach, a Health and Life Coach, and a Brainspotting Practitioner - all to learn how to heal myself and learn how to teach others that it's possible for them to heal themselves too - without having to rely on a healthcare system that couldn't give too f*cks if they died, without having to rely on a job that would replace them on a flip of a dime, and without waiting for retirement to begin living their life to the fullest.
What about you? Can't wait to learn more!
