Wali Soko Lesson
Sökö is a traditional rhythm originating in Komanko in the Faranah Region and is now performed throughout Guinea. It is closely connected to pre-circumcision rites, accompanying the shaving of the boys’ heads and supporting the dances of the bilakoros, or uncircumcised youth, in the months leading up to initiation. The rhythm is also played after the circumcision ceremony as gifts are presented to the boys.
