Understanding the Loomis Head Structure
The Loomis method starts with a simple sphere—this represents the cranium.
To establish the side planes, we “cut” the sides of the sphere. These cuts flatten out the roundness, creating a foundation for accurate perspective and proportion.
  • Sphere: Represents the roundness of the skull.
  • Cut Sides: Shows where the side planes of the head sit.
  • 3D Turns/Angles: Rotating the form lets us understand how the head moves in space.
By starting with this modified sphere, we can place features more accurately and maintain structure at any angle.
