🌿 Welcome to Escape to Vietnam
Seeing it in person is better than just hearing about it.
Vietnam is a place that instantly makes you want to go. It has both relaxing coastlines and lively everyday city life. If I had the chance to travel there, I’d love to visit Da Nang and Hoi An. The beaches in Da Nang are clean and peaceful—walking along the shore in the early morning or at sunset feels incredibly relaxing. Not far from there, Hoi An has a completely different vibe. At night, when the lanterns light up, the streets feel calm and almost timeless. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are more about daily life. Street-side shops, endless motorbikes, and a hot bowl of pho really show the local lifestyle. Sitting by the road with an iced coffee, just watching people go by, is a simple but enjoyable moment. If you were to live in Vietnam long-term, life would feel more relaxed and the cost of living is relatively low. With sunshine, greenery, and lively streets, life feels warm and vibrant. Of course, you’d need to adjust to the climate and cultural differences, but that’s also part of what makes it interesting. Vietnam may not be a place that instantly amazes you, but it’s the kind of place that grows on you the longer you stay. Maybe that’s exactly why it makes people want to slow down and really experience it.
Keeping the Mind Active in Vietnam
One of the quiet benefits of living in Vietnam — whether you are a digital nomad, semi-retiree, retiree, or someone like me on a recovery journey — is the chance to slow down without switching off. But peace does not mean doing nothing. A healthy mind still needs a project. Something creative. Something that gives structure to the week and keeps the imagination moving. One idea is to create your own YouTube radio-style show. It does not need to be expensive. It does not need to be perfect. It can be a talkback show, a storytelling series, a Vietnam diary, a travel reflection, a crime-fiction channel, a wellness show, or even short conversations about life abroad. As an example, I created After Midnight with Daktari Knight, a late-night fictional radio call-in show. It keeps my mind active, gives me a creative routine, and allows me to build something slowly from Vietnam. This episode gives a good overview of Season 1 and shows what is possible when you combine storytelling, voice tools, YouTube, and a bit of imagination. The message is simple: retirement, recovery, or life abroad does not have to mean becoming passive. Create something. Keep the mind awake. Vietnam gives us the peace. What we build inside that peace is up to us.

Visa Runs, Tailor Finds & A Slight Disappearance 😅
Hey everyone, If I’ve been a little quiet lately, there’s a good reason… I’ve been deep in the world of visa runs — specifically a Laos adventure that turned into a mix of learning, stress, and “well… that didn’t go to plan” moments. To be honest, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. There were a few curveballs, a bit of uncertainty, and one or two moments where I questioned my life choices sitting in border queues 😅. But… as always, those experiences have turned into something valuable. The upside? I’ve now worked through the process properly and found what I believe is the best agency to streamline visa runs, taking away a lot of the guesswork, stress, and risk. I’ll be adding some solid updates into the Visa Runs section so you can avoid the mistakes I made and move through it all far more smoothly. At the same time, I’ve had family and friends over from Australia — which has been great — and that led to another unexpected gem… We went down the rabbit hole of finding a good tailor in Hoi An — and as most of you know, there are hundreds to choose from. It can honestly feel overwhelming. But we struck gold. I’ve found an incredible tailor who: - Is tertiary qualified in design - Has completed advanced language training - Speaks excellent English - And most importantly… delivers quality work without the usual hassle The difference in experience was night and day — no confusion, no guesswork, just professional guidance from start to finish. I’ll be putting together a detailed Hoi An Tailor Guide update so you know exactly where to go, what to ask for, and how to get the best result without wasting time or money. So yes — a bit of absence, but all for good reason. Behind the scenes, I’ve been turning real-life chaos into practical, usable guidance for all of you. Visa runs, tailoring, and a few other updates coming shortly that will make life here a whole lot easier. Appreciate your patience — and as always, I’m building this from lived experience, not theory.
