Hi, everyone! I was wondering if the Vent Slams that started this month will have themes we have to follow? Like one month, a certain holiday, the next to be determined
Sometimes kids get afraid of the puppets. Whenever this happens, I always stop the show and demonstrate the puppet is a puppet. This puts the little ones at ease. And I also give them a tiny ventriloquist lesson too. Have any of you encountered this and how did you combat it?
Vent is synonymous with nightclub acts and TV, but also children’s entertainment. Outside of performing, vent in my experiences has been used to teach children about safety, anti-bullying, to preach religious lessons and in therapy to help people of all ages. What are some ways you’ve seen vent used in a non-performance way?
When I lived in Vancouver, I was asked to do a corporate Christmas party. They normally book the wonderful Don Bryan but he wasn’t available. I warned my agent that Don and I do very different shows, but they insisted. My instinct said don’t do it but my wallet said take it. It was a disaster. I was told it was a family party. There 2 count ‘em 2 kids. I’ve learned (as the new saying goes) to stay in my own lane. It took a long time to get my reputation back!!
