Learn the Theme of the Event
I performed a show today for a senior volunteer lunch. It was a Super Hero Theme. In my show I playfully added some super hero comments and things. When I finished the show one of the event planners said "I was so impressed the way you did your research and added in some Super Hero bits to tie in with our theme." So there is an idea for you all, find out the theme of the event and add a few little things and they will love you for it.
Performing in a different language
For those of you who are multi-lingual, how many languages do you perform in? And those of you who have had to perform in a different language they didn’t know, how did you learn? Let’s hear your experience
Performing for families
I perform for family and all adult shows. I find that it works when you don’t talk down to the kids. Even when I get the occasional heckle from a kid with respect they to begin to respect me. Instead of asking them to stop I heckle playfully back and the young person usually stops especially when I high five them for helping with the show.
Creating A New Character
When I create a new character, I always start with a backstory. Name. Where are they from. Likes/dislikes. Dogs/cat person. What do they eat for breakfast? And do they take a hot or cold shower? What are some of your character creation hacks?
Mic Stand or Headset?
When doing your live shows, do you prefer a mic stand or headset? I’m old school (NYC comedy clubs is where I cut my teeth) so I like a mic stand. Some vents like a head set because they can move freely. So what’s everyone’s preference?
