🎶What song has the most meaning in your life? 🎹 Can Music Save Your Mortal Soul?
It’s amazing how music can hold entire chapters of our lives, isn’t it? 🎶💃🪩🕺 The way a single melody or lyric can bring back laughter, connection, and sometimes even a quiet moment of healing. For me, the song is American Pie (the day the music died). In 1972 I was 9 years old and the only thing a wanted for Christmas was a portable radio. Santa delivered and the #1 hit at the time, that I listened to over and over again was Bye-Bye Miss American Pie by Don McLean. At the time it was the longest song to ever hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 at the time of its release, running at 8 minutes and 42 seconds. It held this record for nearly 50 years, from early 1972 until 2021. All these years later when the song plays, it stops me in my tracks as a listen to the lyrics and reminisce all the nostalgic memories. This morning writing this post I came across several video's of the story about the song, that probably explains it better then anything I've heard over the years. The song sounds happy, but feels sad. Its poetry invites personal loss interpretations, blending celebration with ache. At the time I was a paperboy delivering newspapers, had happiness and sadness already weaving through my life.🗞️ It struck a chord in so many ways! The song impacted me more than I realized even to this day. When I did a cross country RV trip four years ago, made it a point to stop and visit the Feb 2, 1959 plane crash site, ⭐⭐⭐ three stars memorial site. Many these days don't even know the names, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson. Frankly I didn't either when I was 9 years old. Yet, they and so many other artists have impacted and been a part of our lives, whether we realize it or not. Artist do live forever.
