a line I keep coming back to
a line I keep coming back to:
"you're not paid for the hour. you're paid for the value you bring to the hour."
I don't remember where I first heard it. but it rewired how I price everything, so let me unpack why it matters for you.
most creators price like employees. they think in time. "this video takes me three hours, so I should charge for three hours of my time." it feels fair. it's also the exact thinking that keeps you poor.
because the brand does not care how long it took. a video that took you thirty minutes and makes them a lot of money is worth more than one that took you eight hours and flops. the time is invisible to them and irrelevant to the value. you're the only one counting the hours.
when you price on time, you cap yourself at how fast you can work, which means the better and faster you get, the LESS the market rewards you. that's backwards. that's an employee's ceiling.
when you price on value, on what the video is worth to their business, getting faster and better makes you MORE money, not less. now the skill compounds instead of capping you.
the whole game is quietly switching, in your own head, from selling hours to selling outcomes. the brand was always buying the outcome. you were just pricing the hours.
stop counting your time. start counting their result.
