New article just dropped on Substack 👇
I just published a new piece called “Nordic Cosplay”, and it’s something I’ve been wanting to name clearly for a while.
It’s about what happens when sauna turns into an aesthetic instead of a practice — when imitation replaces translation, and performance quietly displaces the medicine.
This isn’t a takedown of Nordic sauna traditions.
It’s a defense of them.
More importantly, it’s a call to do the harder work here in North America:
not copying forms, but understanding why they worked — and building practices that actually belong in our bodies, lives, and communities.
If you’ve ever felt that something in modern “wellness sauna” feels impressive but oddly hollow, this piece is for you.
If you read it, I’d love to hear:
- What landed
- What pushed back
- Or where you’ve seen “cosplay” show up in your own sauna experiences
This idea is going to keep showing up in the Guide and in how we think about practice together, so your reflections really matter.
