Hello everyone my name is Scott and me and the fam have been testing out this DIY kratky type hydroponic conversion with some kale and spinach using recycled material for a type of in home nursery and this is how its going. Most of my kale is making it my spinach is having a difficult time but thats because we are still learning how to get it to grow without human error. Would love some tips on how to make this better. The medium is perlite which is what im trying to use to hold these up until they are ready to transition. We didnt exactly want dirt in the house and the perlite seems to be holding up but the goal is to nurse them and transition to a DIY food grade bucket hydroponic system. Feel free to steal my idea its grear for limited space in like apartments with no land even in a sunny window. I used a couple of boxes some recycled sauce cups from some take out and some water bottles for the water source makes it easier to make sure they have water and I use a string for wicking the water into the perlite which is the white medium you see and some hydroponic grow formula I found on a youtube video you can get from Amazon and some grow lights for now. You can do all this for like $30-$40 and we are even using a solar panel to power the grow lights until the texas sun cools down enough to transition them possibly outside for the winter when the temperature is cool enough for the kale and spinach. The goal is to hopefully transition it to a bucket system like in the images Any tips would be appreciated.
