๐บ๏ธ Trip Planning & Recommendations - We've Done the Legwork, You Get the Shortcuts
Planning a wildlife trip? Good. Let's save you from the mistakes we've already made. Fiona and I have spent years working out which locations deliver, which are overhyped tourist traps, and which hidden gems nobody tells you about. UK, Europe, Southern Africa - we know what works, when to go, and how to actually get there without losing your mind. Ask us anything: "Where should I go for X?" - Want to photograph raptors? See winter water birds? Find that specific snake? Tell us what you're after and we'll point you to places that actually deliver. "When's the best time to visit?" - Seasons matter enormously. Migration timing, breeding behavior, weather, crowd levels - we'll tell you when to book and when to avoid. We've been caught in the wrong season enough times to know. "How do I actually get there?" - Some locations sound brilliant until you realize they require a 4x4, a local guide who doesn't exist, and access permission you can't get. We'll tell you the realistic logistics - trains, buses, whether you need a car, where you can actually camp or stay. "Is it worth it?" - Sometimes the honest answer is no. We'll tell you when somewhere's been ruined by development, when the access has changed, or when there's a better alternative nearby that guidebooks don't mention. Share your own recommendations too. You've found a brilliant spot? Tell everyone. Local knowledge is gold, and this community works better when we all contribute. Be specific in your questions. "Where should I go?" is too broad. "Where in the UK can I photograph kingfishers in March within two hours of London?" - now we can actually help you. We're heading to South Africa for seven weeks starting late January - Cape Town to Hoedspruit, Garden Route, St Lucia, Golden Gate, the lot. You'll get real-time updates on what's working, what's changed, and what's worth your time. After that, monthly European train trips to places we know well. Fresh intel, regularly updated. So where are you thinking of going?
