Welcome to The Heart of the IEP (Free "Introducing my Child" guide here!)
This is the place where we work together to help students achieve through better IEP writing and planning. This is the place for families to get support in communicating with the school team, and for teachers to learn how to write and implement more effective IEPs that help learners thrive. I am a 13-year veteran of teaching. I'm a DHH teacher (d/Deaf and hard of hearing), a Special Education teacher, and I have helped scores of families navigate the process of getting the supports and services their children deserve to help them thrive and become the best versions of themselves. Please let me know where you are joining us from, what your role is (parent, teacher, student, or all of the above) and what you are hoping to get out of this community. Also please grab your "Introducing our student" worksheet for families to introduce their child to the IEP team holistically in a way that honors their child's individuality and uniqueness as a complete human being from a strengths-based perspective. Teachers, feel free to grab a copy to share with families to help the team start the IEP process off with better communication and true collaboration with the student's family or caregivers.
