ALWAYS USE A CONTRACT! LEARNING TIP #1
Just a reminder why contracts are vital in pet care! 🐾 I took in two cats for a 60-day stay at a massive discount ($1k vs. the standard $3.9k) to help someone moving. I provided the beds and toys the owner didn't bring, only for her to haggle the price down even further at checkout because she’s "early." I prioritize animal welfare above all, but being "generous" shouldn't mean being taken advantage of. Time for a strict early-departure policy! The full story Outside of skool I continue my animal based career on several levels one being luxury pet boarding, well this woman wanted to board 2 cats with me for 2 full months while she moved, her total would have been $3,904. She gave me this story and run down and I agreed on $1000 in payments of $250 until they were retrieved. She didn't provide beds for them and I asked repeatedly and each time she said she would get them delivered or something along the lines but never did, finally I was more direct and just told her I specifically going pet supplies shopping did she want me to pickup the beds and she reimburse me and she said no it was out of her budget right now. So I just said I was going to buy them myself no cost to her and keep them for when they visit again of the next customer as I wanted to do that anyways and I refuse to let an animal go without a bed or become stressed over a little money as my priority is the animals welfare. I also bought them a package of toy cat balls, a wand toy, and a full size wood scratching post as there was no toys provided during drop off or things for entertainment at all either and I wanted to eventually have these things pre setup in the kitty suite anyways so I didnt mind. She then texts me yesterday saying shes getting the cats early and dosent want to pay full price so I'll only end up making $750 instead of the $1000 after already discounting it from $3,904. I essentially told her I'm sorry but I've already blocked off customers and I was relying on that set $1000 and asked if we could meet at $925. She said she could meet at $850. I tried explaining again that I really can't re book the time lost and I've already discounted it which was specifically because it was such a long stay ( and most places would have revised the discount or still made her pay full price ) and that I have to be firm on $925 ( which I did not ) she essentially tried to say she was actually being generous to me because she agreed to raise it even tho the cost didn't meet the days used ( which it actually did very much so bc normally she would have to pay $64 per day for her 2 cats this case she's paying $17. Again it was a $3,904 stay vs the now $925 so she's very much so used the time vs the money ). She tried to say to just start booking within the last 2 weeks which just shows she has never worked in a field like this as it's almost impossible to get last minute customers like that and I refuse to book with several clients at once so I can prioritize 1 on 1 attention and care and provide the lowest stress environment possible even if they are in there own individual suites ( master bedrooms ). We eventually settled on $885. She was my first client for a bit so I didn't have a contract made up yet. And she hasn't answered me since about her cats needing litter ( she provided litter box, litter, food and bowls from there home already) some pics for reference
