This is what I say walking into a business cold. Not theory. Steal it, run it exactly as written for 20 doors, then we talk about changing it.
BEFORE THE DOOR (60 seconds, in your car)
Look up their Google review count and their closest competitor’s.
Point your demo chip at their exact Google review page, then test the tap on your own phone before you get out of the car. NFC on, screen unlocked. A fumbled tap at the counter kills the whole trick. If you can’t pre-program, a demo page works and you program theirs after the yes.
Look through the window. If there’s a line of customers, come back. Never pitch across a paying customer.
1. THE WALK-IN
Walk in relaxed. Stand in one hand, your phone in the other, unlocked.
“Hey, quick one. Is the owner in, or is that you?”
If it’s them: “Perfect. Ten seconds, watch this.”
Tap your own phone on the stand while you’re still saying it. Don’t ask for the ten seconds, take them. By the time they’ve decided whether they want a conversation, their review page is already open.
2. THE DEMO
Their Google review page is on your screen. Turn it to them.
Say nothing for a beat. Let them find their own business name.
“That’s your review page, live. This sits at your register. Customer taps it the same way, that page opens on their phone, and they’ve left the review before they’re out the door. No app, nothing to download.”
If they reach for their own phone or say “do that again,” hand them the stand and let them run it. A demo they run themselves closes harder than one they watch. But you never open with that ask. Half of them don’t have a phone in their pocket and the other half aren’t tapping a stranger’s gadget. Your phone first, every time.
3. THE MIRROR
“Off the top of your head, how many Google reviews do you have right now?”
They will guess wrong. Almost nobody knows.
“You’re at 47. The shop up the street is at 210. When somebody searches for a barber around here, that’s the whole fight, and it’s happening whether you’re in it or not.”
4. THE PIVOT
“How many customers came through last month, roughly? … And how many left a review? So a couple hundred people like this place enough to come back, and Google looks like nobody’s been here since 2022. Google ranks fresh reviews heavier. That’s the gap this closes.”
5. THE CLOSE
“It’s a hundred bucks, one time, no monthly ever. One customer who reads your reviews and walks in covers it twice. It’s already programmed to your page, you just watched it work. You want it by the register or up front?”
Then be quiet. The next person who talks is the buyer or it’s you starting over. Placement question, not yes-or-no. People who answer “register” have already bought.
If you ran the fallback demo page instead of theirs, the line is: “I program it to your page right now, takes five minutes.”
6. PAYMENT AND THE ADD-ON
Program it on the spot. Card, cash, whatever they run.
While it’s processing, one sentence: “Most places with two stations grab the three pack, it’s 250 instead of 300. Want the extra two?”
Ask once. Yes is a bonus. No costs nothing.
7. IF THEY STALL, RUN THE LOANER
“Tell you what. I’ll leave this one on your counter, programmed to your page, free until Friday. I’ll come back and show you exactly how many people tapped it. Under ten taps and I’ll take it back myself, you’ll never see me again.”
Then: “What’s your cell? I’ll text you before I swing by.”
Text them right there, standing in the shop: “This is Austin, see you Friday.”
Now the loop is locked. You have their number, they have your name, and your product is on their counter selling for you all week.
8. IF THE OWNER IS OUT
Get two things from whoever’s there: the owner’s first name and when they’re usually in. Leave nothing. The loaner only goes down with the owner, because the owner has to feel the taps to buy.
THE RULES
Owner or nobody.
Your tap is the pitch. Never describe what a demo can show.
Say the price, then stop talking.
Slow down. Nervous reps talk fast and fast sounds like a scam.
Every no is a rep. I still get told no every day. You’ll see them on my page.
Knocked a door and it went sideways? Post exactly what happened and what you said. I’ll tell you what I would have said.
