Parenting an adopted child often requires a unique skillset.
The natural bonds formed through nurturing care in early childhood are often absent for adoptive children, which can lead to attachment issues, difficult behaviors, executive functioning delays, and other struggles. It can be difficult to know how to respond the first time your child screams "I hate you! You're not even my real parent!"
This is a space for adoptive parents to come together, crowdsourcing ideas for supporting difficult to navigate behaviors. Rather than punitive measures, we focus on regulation and connection. Instead of ignoring or avoiding the big emotions, we draw closer, seeking to create meaningful connection with our children through parenting techniques that speak love loud and clear.
