Unlock potential of stories
This week, at StoryConnect NL, we are taking a special step in our StoryCycle: the listening phase of our second project with RVIG (the National Office for Identity Data, part of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations). From numbers to stories. RVIG holds extensive data on Dutch identity documents. But what really happens in people’s daily lives? How do citizens actually experience their passport or ID card? Participatory narrative inquiry in action. We treat people as experts of their own experience. By collecting stories and making sense of them together, insights emerge that traditional evaluations often miss. Stories with emotion and context help RVIG align their services with what truly matters to citizens. The human side of identity documents. In our digital age, it is important to remember that behind every document is a person with a story. By taking these stories seriously, we create understanding of the real impact of government processes. Interview Ilya Soffer

📖 Your Story ≠ Just One Story
Hey everyone — welcome! I wanted to start our time here with something simple, but powerful: There’s no one way to tell a story. When we say “tell your story,” it can sound big, overwhelming — even impossible. But what if we start smaller? There are different kinds of stories we carry, share, or stumble upon: ✨ Stories about our life These are often broad, reflective, and layered: - “This is who I am.” - “This is how I became who I am.” - “This is what I’ve always struggled with.” They’re personal, complex, and sometimes hard to tell in one go. They need space — and trust. 🧩 Stories from a moment, a setting, or a role These are often shorter, more specific, and grounded in experience: - “This is what happened when I tried to speak up at work.” - “This is how it felt to be in that meeting.” - “This is what someone once said to me that I never forgot.” These stories are often easier to share — and incredibly rich in insight. 🧭 Why this matters here In this space, we’ll work with both kinds of stories: - The personal, unfolding stories of who we are - And the situational stories that capture real-life moments — sometimes funny, sometimes painful, often illuminating Some of our conversations will be reflective. Others will be practical, method-based, or collaborative. But every time, a story will be the seed. 💬 For today, I’d love to hear: What kind of story feels easier for you to share right now? - A story about your life? - Or a story from a specific experience or context? Feel free to respond in a sentence, a paragraph, or even just an emoji. Marco
