If you’re starting a referral-based cleaning company by yourself…
There’s nothing wrong with running it solo in the beginning.
You should.
You’ll learn the flow. You’ll see where things break. You’ll understand your cleaners and your customers.
But here’s the mistake I see new owners make:
They accidentally build a business that only works if they’re glued to their phone.
Answering every message. Solving every issue. Manually confirming every booking.
That’s fine in the first few months
It’s a problem in month six.
If you’re starting solo, here are a few tips and tricks that I’ve seen be helpful over the years.
  • Document everything as you go.  If you answer the same question twice, turn it into a template.
  • Keep the model simple.  You’re connecting homeowners with independent cleaners and taking a percentage. Don’t overcomplicate it.
  • Use systems early
That question alone will change how you build.
Starting solo isn’t the problem.
Staying the only moving piece forever is.
Build it scrappy. Build it simple. But build it like you plan to step back.
That’s how this model actually becomes remote.
