Maybe I'm the problem...
That's what a mom said as we talked about her son's bad behavior in school.
I asked this mom a few questions and quickly realized
how much she kept comparing him to other kids.
Then I asked her, "how would you feel if he compared you to other parents?"
She didn't like that.
But it's good to have someone on your side that's not a "yes man", who just validates everything you say and do.
As we talked a little more
she said something that surprised herself...
She said, "as I'm listening to myself speak, I don't sound like a very nice mom".
She said, "I'm starting to think that maybe I'm the problem."
That realization is what changed the trajectory of her parenting approach and relationship with her son.
Can you relate to this?
Did your parents constantly compare you to others?
Are you confused by your kid's bad behavior?
