The Cost of Staying in the Story
A negative thought appears. That’s normal.
But what happens when we stay with it?
▪️Five minutes turns into twenty.
▪️One memory becomes three.
▪️A small irritation becomes a full mood.
Nothing new has happened externally.
But internally, the tone has shifted.
Staying in the story has a cost:
🟥 It costs energy
🟥 It costs clarity
🟥 It changes how we speak to people
🟥 It can even change how we sleep later
Most of the time, we don’t realise we’ve been investing attention in something that isn’t happening anymore.
The first thought isn’t the issue.
It’s the repetition.
This isn’t about blaming ourselves for thinking.
It’s about noticing when we are draining ourselves by replaying something that isn’t happening anymore.
Today, try this:
—————————
If you catch yourself replaying something, ask quietly:
🎯 “Is this worth another five minutes of my life?”
No force. No judgment.
Just awareness.
👉 What do you notice negativity costs you most:
🅾️ Energy
🅾️ Mood
🅾️ Focus
🅾️ Sleep
🅾️ All of the above
