I started a Substack!
UPDATE: I still have a Substack, but I have deleted the publication that I started based on the critical reception that I received from friends who are practitioners. After giving it more thought, they made some valid points. I remain firm in reclaiming my creator identity, but I would rather focus on developing the work in private before I’m ready to make it public, especially if I’m focusing on spiritual themes.
———————————————————
I publicly (re)claimed my identity this week by creating a Substack where I share my creative writing and personal reflection exercises centered on word analysis that I am calling mystic linguistics.
I inadvertently caused a controversy because I used the word occult and posted a poem that referenced archetypes that I do not personally have a relationship with. I’m an artist, and I’m a Vodou priestess. I did so lovingly and in solidarity, not in an appropriating way. I was called inauthentic by people who are close to me. It hurts!
Out of respect, I unpublished the poem and changed language in the site. I’m moving forward with my commitment and am excited to engaged with my growing subscribers.
