🔥 How to Start an Effective Conversation From the DMs to the Phone 🔥
Most deals die in the DMs because people make the first message all about them, their offer, their pitch, their outcome. That’s the fastest way to get ignored.
The goal of your initial conversation is not to sell. It’s to connect and create curiosity so the prospect wants to move the conversation forward.
Here’s the 3-Step Framework to do it right:
âś… 1. Lead with Genuine Interest
Comment on something specific about them (their work, content, or achievements). Avoid generic lines like “Hey, how’s business?”.. that’s just noise.
Instead:
“Loved your recent post about [topic], curious.. what inspired you to share that?”
âś… 2. Shift From Chat to Discovery
Once they engage, don’t rush. Ask a powerful, open-ended question:
“What’s your main focus right now?”
This opens the door for them to talk about themselves and gives you insight into their needs.
âś… 3. Bridge to the Call (Permission-Based)
After a short, engaging back-and-forth, ask for permission instead of pushing:
“This is interesting.. I have a few ideas that could help. Want to hop on a quick call to explore?”
This feels natural, not salesy, and positions you as a trusted advisor, not a desperate closer.
Remember: The best closers don’t sell in the DMs.. they start conversations that lead to conversions.
