The Prestige of The Emmys
On this episode, I’ll be diving into this year’s Emmy nominations and what they reveal about the shifting landscape of prestige television. HBO dominated once again with a massive 142 nominations, reminding everyone who still runs the Emmy game. But Netflix, the undisputed king of overall viewership and subscriptions, wasn’t far behind with 121 nods. Meanwhile, Apple TV+ made history with its highest nomination count ever—81—with standout shows Severance and The Studio leading the charge. That’s pretty impressive for a platform that’s only been around six years. We’ll also look at the surprising snubs—especially for Prime and Paramount+, who were completely shut out of above-the-line categories. And for those who love a bit of Hollywood crossover, two Oscar-winning directors, Martin Scorsese and Ron Howard, were nominated—not for directing—but for guest acting in The Studio. They’re joined by the brilliant Bryan Cranston, who I personally think stole the final episodes with his wild and hilarious performance. There’s a lot to unpack about how TV is evolving, and I’ll be covering it all on the next episode. https://www.youtube.com/live/enPtV_b_DMA?si=0AKdkmn1HGNxB3w_

Interview with Tommy Burke 2024!
We welcome Tommy Burke to the show!! His book, Not Just Sunglasses and Autographs is a captivating autobiography that follows the author's journey from bar bouncing in Boston to working on award-winning television shows and movies. This is an endearing story of overcoming the odds through dark humor, tenacity, authenticity, and happiness. Initially envisioned as a memoir about a man who had beaten Hodgkin's Lymphoma and lived to tell the tale, the author was then thrown a major curveball with a Parkinson's disease diagnosis. Equal parts pep-talk and gut-punch, this unvarnished and vulnerable memoir-meets-handbook shares lessons learned in life and work. These pages encourage readers to keep moving forward, embrace resilience, step out of their comfort zones, and take life head on. https://www.youtube.com/live/-YElT7yt_Gc?si=IohOQ6WGyBwRFzJx
