Hey Blueprint fam,
Most contractors hire the same way.
Phones blow up in March.
The schedule is three weeks out.
You're running estimates at 9 PM.
So you hire the first guy who can pass a drug test.
That's not hiring.
That's panic.
And panic hires cost you.
They show up late.
They cut corners on the jobs you can't babysit.
They leave a mess in a customer's house that you have to fix.
Then they quit in June and you're right back where you started.
Meanwhile you paid for the training, the truck time, and the callbacks.
Here's the simple truth.
The best time to hire is when you don't need anyone.
That's right now.
Slow season.
When you're not desperate, you get picky.
You can run a real interview.
You can do a working interview.
You can actually call references.
You can train someone the right way before the rush hits.
Here's the fix.
1. Write down the exact role you'll need filled by spring.
2. Post the job now, while other shops are quiet.
3. Keep a short list of 2 or 3 solid people, even if you're not ready to bring them on yet.
4. Bring one person on early enough that they're trained before busy season.
Your busy season gets decided in your slow season.
So tell me.
When did you make your last hire?
Were you calm, or were you drowning?
Drop it below.
I'm right here with you.
