Not sure how long to fast? Start simple.
•12–13 hours: a gentle starting point for beginners
•13–15 hours: a moderate fasting window that may fit many women
•15–17 hours: a longer window some women use as they become more comfortable
•24+ hours: advanced and occasional, not something to do daily
If you still have a menstrual cycle, your fasting rhythm may also change throughout the month. In the Fast Like a Girl framework, moderate fasting is generally used more in the earlier part of the cycle, while the days leading up to your period are approached more gently, with shorter or no fasts and greater emphasis on nourishment. This compliments your hormonal balance.
🌿 Remember: longer is not automatically better.
Pay attention to:
• Energy
• Sleep
• Hunger
• Stress
• Recovery
• Where you are in your cycle
If you’re brand new to fasting, try a 12–13 hour overnight fast a few days per week and gradually adjust only when that feels comfortable and can usually be used most days in your cycle.
