Pyramid Level 6 - Collection
For the rider this means developing refined aides through half halt and through subtle communication.
Why this is important - Learning to use half halts to rebalance and control movement is important when riding several movements in a row. Helps you to ride between the movements fluidly. Being able to collect the horse is key for moving more of the horse's weight to the hind legs and lighten the forehand and prepares the horse for movements such as canter pirouettes, piaffe and jumping. Collection also improves balance and makes the horse less prone to injuries.
What exercises have you done to help you use your aides more clearly? Do you utilize the half halt? If so, when do you use it and how does it help the horse?
