Intro to the Atelier Hub family
Hi, my official name is Mary D. Huddleston, but I prefer to be called m.d., I just passed my 90th birthday and am still going strong! I've been a sewer all my life with detours into other crafts and the fashion industry, where because I was representing Saks Fifth Avenue in New Orleans as their Fashion/PR Director for the new store they had opened in 1983, I had to "Saksify" my wardrobe as I remember telling my husband. To cut a very long story short, if anyone has further interest, check out my FaceBook pages under my official name or, PeaceWraps or on my new website, which is still a work in progress : www.vintagetreassuresbyauntie.com After retiring, and moving to Plano, Texas, I returned to my first love; sewing, but I no longer started from scratch; after re-discovering the fun of thrifting when searching for silks to use in weaving my scarves and accessories. I also "discovered" that there were treasures to be found in gently worn clothing especially if you had an eye for what to look for and the creativity to re-imagine what it could become with a little, or a lot of "tweaking" from me. I also realized that I would not live long enough to finish all the things in my closets. Which led to my realization that if I died before I cleaned out my closets, these treasures might end up in a landfill! Hence the website where I could sell my treasures to someone who would appreciate the items I have collected and curated over a lifetime. My living room is now a Virtual Vintage Workshop where I can showcase my treasures and be sure that they escape the landfill and find some fun on someone else's back, or in the case of the "Work-in-Progress" become the project for someone else to finish. I hope that in meeting all of you, someone out there will take up the challenge. Sent out with Love in the Joy of the Creative Process... AuntieM
📌 WELCOME TO THE ATELIER HUB
Hello & welcome in. 🧵 I am so grateful you are here. This is a space I have wanted to create for a long time, somewhere that finally feels right for makers like us. A place that doesn't start at the beginning. A place that meets you in the beautiful, complicated middle of this craft we call sewing. Whether you are a dressmaker, a bridal maker, seamstress, a tailor, a corsetiere, an upcycle maker, a costumier, furnishings.. or someone who crosses every single sewing discipline day, this studio is yours. The Atelier Hub was built on one simple belief; that sewers grow best when they grow together. That when we share our knowledge, our discoveries, our creative crises & our wins across every discipline, the whole community becomes richer for it. This is not a teaching space. There are no tutorials here, no step by step guides, no back to basics but we can share our sewing techniques to support growth across our disciplines.. What there is, is a room full of serious, passionate, experienced makers from all over the world, & me standing alongside you as your sewing ally whenever the project gets hard, the client gets difficult or the creative well runs dry. I have been sewing for over 20 years. I am still learning. I suspect you are too. That is exactly why we are all here. Now it's your turn; come & introduce yourself 👇 I'd love to know: 🧵 Your name & where you are in the world ✂️ How long you have been sewing 📌 Your main discipline or the one you are most curious about right now 🌟 One thing you are currently making or dreaming of making There are no wrong answers. There is no judgement in this studio. The studio is open. Welcome to your sewing crew. 🧵 Claire Amelia Founder, The Atelier Hub
📌 WELCOME TO THE ATELIER HUB
We have hit 20 members! Welcome in sewers 🪡
We're not even 2 weeks old, and I didn't even know I was going to be opening this group 2 weeks ago today. As when when my creative mum @Jan Appleton mentioned it on a call (2 weeks ago tomorrow - Monday) I just knew it had to happen, and wallah that night the group was open! So, here I am building a group of sewers in real time - WHY? because I know deep down in my heart that we need a space for sewers who are past beginner stage, sewers who touch on not just one discipline, sewers who want to learn more, and have a safe place to ask those awkward questions... I built my sewing expertise up from uncomfortable places, with my customers, and didn't have anywhere to divulge, ask, question, query, worry, grow, or share.... So, whilst you're in the mix of your sewing frenzy, I'm here to help you along your way, to make the best of what you are creating, along with the other members in our community. I believe we are all here, because sewing is a discipline, and we want to share that skill with others (a way to beat fast fashion, push the sewers forward and educate our communities!) Let's welcome our latest members; @Brandi Reid @Valerie The French Sewing Bee @Allyson Scanlon @M d Huddleston Members, do not forget to introduce yourself to the pinned welcome post; https://www.skool.com/the-ateliers-hub-9961/welcome-to-the-atelier-hub?p=c3376e87 and the videos are up in our classroom, how to engage within the community, go check them out! I have lots planned for the group, which is exciting, seeing as what's been created already and we've only just started! Grateful you are all here, let's see what we can grow and achieve collectively. Happy Sunday Sewers from the UK 🪡 Claire Amelia, founder. 💥
Thanks for letting me in
Hi, I'm excited to be able to participate. I'm retired. I started sewing when I was around 14. I have had some big gaps when I didn't do much sewing but I always come back to it. I like the idea of sewing garments that are couture. But the truth is some of my garments should be on the seconds rack. I do a lot of fixing.
Welcome Our New Members
