I just interviewed Lauren Reeves, a principal at a $200M fund that invests in B2B SAAS companies. The biggest truth I found? Most early stage VCs don't need to see any revenue or even a product to invest millions into your company... they invest ONLY based on the founder. Don't get me wrong, traction matters. Sales & marketing matters. But the biggest deciding factor for every investor is: do I believe this person can bend reality and drag their company to the finish line? You won’t stand out by saying “we use LLMs and AI Agents.” That’s commonplace for high performing startups. You stand out by showing your obsession with your industry, being visible on social media, and your ability to talk logically about why your idea will grow year over year. I think it’s interesting that programming is officially “out of focus” while creative thinking & social influence now hold more weight. Looks like everybody will be on the same playing field when it comes to being able to build software but the ones who will rise to the top have the soft skills that are developed through unique hardships and experiences… what’s your thoughts?
