So, I have started a white noise experiment. For 7 days, I am taking 15 minutes to cover my eyes with a night mask and listening to white noise on noise canceling headphones. After the session, I document a few things with the experience using a tracker I created. I wanted to share this and hope it's okay that I do.
Here is my experiment plan.
The hypothesis:
If I spend 15 minutes each day with my eyes covered, listening to white noise without engaging with external distractions, I may experience greater calm, improved awareness of my thoughts, and a stronger ability to sit comfortably in stillness.
Daily protocol
- Minutes 0–3: Settle. Get comfortable, put on your eye mask, start white noise at a low, comfortable volume, and allow your breathing to become natural.
- Minutes 3–10: Observe. Don't try to force your thoughts away. Notice what your mind does when there is nothing to see and nothing you need to accomplish.
- Minutes 10–13: Experience. Notice physical sensations, emotions, mental images, or changes in your sense of time. Don't assign meaning immediately.
- Minutes 13–15: Return. Slowly bring awareness back to your body, remove your mask, and sit for a moment before returning to your day.
