Memory prices set to surge, OpenAI stalls, and Apple’s supply chain faces scrutiny. The tech landscape is shifting rapidly this morning. Here are the headlines you need to know:
The Cost of Compute: Brace for impact—memory costs are forecasted to jump by 50% in Q3 2026, with no market relief expected until 2028. - AI Pivot: OpenAI has hit the brakes on the public launch of GPT-5.6 following direct intervention by the U.S. government over access to frontier models. - Apple’s Leak Crisis: Following a cyberattack on manufacturing partner Tata Electronics, Apple is in full damage control mode, aggressively scrubbing leaked iPhone 18 Pro drop-test footage from the web. - Hardware Horizons: While developers are getting creative with magnetic-core memory USB drives, Apple is already targeting a 2028 release for its M7 Ultra-powered Mac Studio. The industry is clearly entering a period of heavy regulation and supply chain volatility. How are these shifts impacting your stack?

Lockdown ChatGPT Privacy
Privacy Settings and Features in ChatGPT - To protect your privacy on ChatGPT, you can take several steps, including using the platform without an account, which allows you to submit requests, run web searches, and attach images for analysis, but with limited features and potentially restricted topics. - When creating an account, it is recommended to avoid signing in with Google, Apple, or Microsoft accounts, as certain information will be shared with OpenAI, and instead sign up with your own email address and password to maintain anonymity and security. - Using a temporary chat is another option, which can be enabled by clicking the Turn on Temporary Chat icon, allowing you to discuss more personal topics without the chatbot committing any information to memory. - OpenAI's data collection and model training can be controlled by turning off the Improve the model for everyone option in the Settings > Data controls menu, preventing any personal information from being shared, even if it is not supposed to be associated with your account. - Additionally, you can turn off the Memory feature, which allows ChatGPT to remember personal details about you, by selecting Settings > Personalization and turning off the Reference saved memories option, preventing the AI from referencing any saved information about you in future conversations. Additional Privacy Options and Anonymity Features - It is also worth noting that using the Hide My Email feature with an Apple account can provide an additional layer of anonymity, but this feature is only available on iPhone or iPad devices. - By taking these steps, you can limit the amount of data collected by ChatGPT and protect your identity, while still being able to use the platform's features and functionality. Managing ChatGPT Data and Conversations - Overall, being mindful of how you use ChatGPT and taking advantage of the platform's privacy features can help you maintain control over your personal data and ensure a more secure and private experience. - To protect user privacy, ChatGPT allows users to delete specific memories or all memories by clicking the Manage button, then selecting the ellipsis icon next to the memory and clicking Delete, or by clicking the ellipsis icon at the top of the page and selecting Delete all memories. - Users can also erase browser data by disabling cookie storage, which is done by clicking the account name, selecting Settings, then Data controls, and finally turning off Remember site data between sessions, and deleting any existing cookies by selecting Delete all. - ChatGPT conversations can be erased individually by clicking the ellipsis icon for the chat and selecting Delete, or all past conversations can be removed by clicking the account name, selecting Settings, then Data controls, and clicking the Delete all button next to Delete all chats.
