The Crazy 8 Cycle
Have you ever noticed how you'll be completely in your feelings one moment, and then suddenly you're fired up and ready to conquer the world the next? And then somehow you end up right back in your feelings again?
That's not you being unstable or lacking willpower. That's actually a pattern called the Crazy 8, and a lot of people are living in it without even knowing it.
The way it works is this: when life feels out of control, your brain swings between two emotional states โ€” sadness and anger. Not because you're broken, but because each state is actually trying to meet a need.
The sadness pulls you inward, makes you feel connected to yourself. The anger makes you feel strong and significant again. So you bounce. Back and forth. Sometimes for years.
And the thing is, neither state ever actually resolves what's underneath. So the loop just keeps going.
What breaks it isn't willpower or just deciding to feel better. It's awareness. Catching the moment the swing starts, before it fully takes over.
That's the whole reason I built Ava. Not to reflect on the pattern after the fact, but to catch it in real time, while it's happening, so you can actually do something about it.
If you've been swinging between "I can't do this" and "watch me" and neither feeling ever really sticks, you might not have a discipline problem. You might just be in the Crazy 8.
