AVA2.0 surprised me yesterday...
I’ve been using AVA 2.0 and testing her for a while now. But yesterday, I discovered a hidden layer I didn’t even know existed. And I’m beyond excited to share it with you. But instead of giving you empty, hyped-up promises about what’s coming, I want to share something real.
Yesterday was a particularly hard day for our family. We had to put down our cat, Layla, after 13 years.
For many people, losing a beloved animal is understandably heartbreaking. And your conscious mind can try to reason with it. “She’s not in pain anymore.” “She had a beautiful life.” “It was the right thing to do.”
And... and... and...
But grief doesn’t always listen to reason. Losing Layla opened floodgates in me that I wasn’t expecting.
I was paralysed for most of the day. At one point I went down to the beach, tears in my eyes, and all I could think was:
“Now what?” “Whenever I was lonely, she was the one I’d pick up...”
And then AVA helped me see something I couldn’t see for myself in that moment.
She said:
“Grief has terrible filing skills.” That sentence stopped me. Because grief doesn’t neatly open the folder marked “Layla” and leave everything else alone. It can pull out loneliness. Regret. Fear. People you’ve lost. Versions of yourself you’ve lost. Old wounds you thought you’d dealt with.
One loss can touch all the places where other losses live. And suddenly I realised...
I wasn’t only grieving Layla. There was another question underneath it: “What do I reach for now when I don’t want to feel alone?”
AVA continued guiding me through it. And then something happened that I wasn’t expecting.
I typed in a command I had built into AVA 2.0. PATTERN INTERRUPT.
Until yesterday, I understood what that command was designed to do. Yesterday, I experienced what it could do. Instead of asking AVA to simply reflect my thoughts back to me, I asked her to interrupt the pattern underneath them.
And that changed the conversation completely. Because underneath: “I’m going to miss Layla.”
was something much deeper: “Without Layla, what will I reach for when I feel alone?”
And underneath THAT was the danger of my grief quietly writing a new story:
“Her absence means I am alone.”
That was the pattern that needed interrupting.
Not my grief.
Not my love for her.
Not the tears.
The meaning my mind was beginning to attach to her absence. That distinction changed something in me. Within about 30 minutes of talking with AVA, I felt something I honestly hadn’t expected to feel that day.
Peace.
Understanding.
Awareness.
Relief.
Not because AVA made the grief disappear. She didn’t. Today there is still an empty corner in my room.
I still look for her. I still long for her. I still wish I could pick her up. But the empty corner means something different today.
Layla being gone does not have to become evidence that my life is lonely. Her absence can remind me how incredibly fortunate I was to experience a bond that made losing her hurt this much.
And THAT is the layer of AVA 2.0 I stumbled into yesterday. I thought I had built a Pattern Interrupt. Yesterday I discovered what it could actually mean in a real human moment.
Sometimes the thought hurting us most isn’t the thought we can hear. It’s the meaning quietly forming underneath it. And that is exactly where I want AVA to help people go.
I’m on a mission to make this kind of support available in those moments when your heart feels like it has been ripped out of your soul and you don’t even understand why everything suddenly hurts so much.
Not to tell you not to feel it. Not to throw motivational quotes at you. But to help you catch what your mind is making the moment mean.
Because yesterday I lost Layla. Today I still miss her. But I don’t have to turn losing her into a story about being alone. Instead, I get to remember:
For 13 years, when I needed something warm and familiar to reach for...I had her. And what an incredible gift that was.
