Being skinny in a world obsessed with appearances can feel overly. While society often glamorizes thinness, people who weigh less than their average peers know there’s another side to the story — the side filled with unsolicited comments, side eye glances, and assumptions that something must be wrong. People say things like “Are you okay?” or “You’re so small!” What many fail to understand is that struggling to gain a few pounds can be just as daunting as the struggle to lose.
For someone trying to put on a few healthy pounds, the journey can be challenging just by simply wanting clothes to fit better or even like they used to. Decreased judgment that comes from being smaller than the societal norms is a big plus.
Behind every meal is the quiet determination to gain just a few pounds. But the determination to gain a few pounds disappears after becoming comfortable with self via self-love and self-compassion. People will judge, although no one is in any position to judge on size alone.
