The current is pulling at my feet, threatening to pull me under.
I lift my right foot to take another step.
My foot lands on a sturdy rock. Phew. One step closer.
I lift my left foot, and move it forward.
My heel lands on rock, but the water is moving too fast, and I can't pull it back.
Panicking, I look around for something, anything to keep me standing.
Wait.
I'm only a step away from the shore.
How long have I been moving like this?
I target my fall and land on the shore.
A couple of seconds later, I stand up.
I'm rattled, but the constant stress from fighting against the stream is draining out by the minute.
The water is much more pleasant from here.
Legs shaky, I keep walking downstream.
Somehow, I'm moving faster than I was when I was trying to move inside of the river.
I'm going to be okay.
