Great Call Today! AND... What's Next?
Thank you all who joined today for our Q&A call with David. We loved all the great questions that we got. Your questions are getting more specific as we dive a bit deeper into comedy writing, producing, and directing. We want to make sure we have time on the calls to dive deeper into everything you're working through with your films, so we're going to shift away from doing general Q&A calls. Instead, we'll do more focused Comedy Intensives that focus on specific aspects of writing, directing, producing, etc. For example, we love the "how to pitch" questions brought up by @Johnny Osburn and @Ronald Zapart — this inspired us to do a pitching intensive where we can bring some active producers or studio executives to chime in on what they look for when being pitched, and how they go about pitching their own projects. If you haven't yet joined us on the Premium tier, for the next 3 days, the price for the annual membership is only $500 -- 60% less than monthly!! We're doing this because we know that great comedy is not written overnight, and we want to make sure you have all the support you need. Hopefully, you'll join us. If you were on today's call, what was the highlight for you?

what was the highlight for you?
We had an amazing conversation with the Germans today on Naked Comedy! I feel super inspired now. If you were on the call, what was the highlight for you? For me, the highlight came when @Mazyar Gheiby asked a question and they invited him to their Berlinale party in 3 weeks. The energy of collaboration and generosity that is on these calls really fills my soul!!

Naked Comedy- Guest Announcement
Hi Crashers! We have our next Naked Comedy call scheduled for Wednesday, November 19 at 11:30AM PST. We'll have with us Jim Herzfeld, the writer of "Meet the Parents" and "Meet the Fockers." Jim has also worked on many TV shows as a staff writer, including "Married with Children." This is going to be a great session to get insights from a working TV and film writer and producer. Set your intentions for what you'd like to gain from the conversation and come with your questions. Mark your calendar HERE

January Call Recording Is Now In the Classroom!
Thank you to everyone who joined our first call of the year yesterday. It was one of those sessions that starts out silly… and somehow turns into a masterclass. We laughed a lot (the prank alone almost shut the Zoom down), but we also went deep into the craft — especially around background gags, trusting the audience, and why a spoof scene can never end without a laugh. David even fixed a couple of moments from his own movies… some of them 35 years later!! We got to see the surgical precision that goes into creating these types of jokes. What I loved most was how specific the conversation got: - when to hide a joke instead of pointing at it - why “almost funny” is actually dangerous - how directing and writing blur together in this style of comedy - why playing it dead serious is non-negotiable - and why being your own first audience really matters If you’re actively writing comedy right now, this replay is especially worth watching. It’s one of those calls that will make you look at scenes you’ve already written and go, “Ohhh… that’s why this isn’t landing yet.” Replay is up in the classroom. Can’t wait to see what you apply next. 🎬🔥
Today's Call: Start With Character
Thank you to everyone who participated in today's call. Especially thank you @Mazyar Gheiby for being brave enough to bring your script concept in. We hope you got a lot of clarity from the feedback. Even though we talk a lot about jokes in this group, a great script always starts with character, which informs the situation. If you want to learn more about the nuts and bolts of storytelling, be sure to join the storytelling challenges and classes lead by @Joel Trudgeon. Also, be sure to mark your calendar for next week's episode of Naked Comedy with Bob Weinstein!
