Hey, after reviewing my notes, I realized I miss spoke. Bowker, sells ISBNs through MyIdentifiers.com.
The Library of Congress handles cataloging in Publication (CIP) data and maintains the nation’s largest book catalog, but it does not assign ISBNs.
So, if you’re publishing a book, you’d go through Bowker to purchase and register your ISBN, not the Library of Congress.
So, basically:
Bowker is the “retail desk” that sells and issues ISBNs.
Library of Congress is the “library brain” that catalogs, classifies, and preserves books (protects your intellectual property)
