When I'm doing something scary, knowing that I have survived 100% of my “worst days” makes me feel safer… And to be fair, my “worst days” were pretty scary! Previously, I was very fearful and experiencing major symptoms of schizophrenia. I’ll spare you the details, but from my experiences, I learned so much.
Here are just some of my many (fear-related) lessons from overcoming schizophrenia.
- The “monsters” were only emotions I was evading
- Avoidance was feeding the fear
- Self-compassion: I did the best that I could with what I knew at the time
- No one is going to do the work for me
- Whether you believe you can or can’t, you’re right
Reflecting on these lessons, I believe all mentally scary things are meant to be conquered. If it poses an actual physical danger, then it is valid... However, I try to take action on things that I fear because I have learned (for me) it is typically a harmless emotion trying to express itself.
What have you learned from overcoming some of your fears? Let me know in the comments ✨💛✨
