Ask, Share & Explore—This Is Your Space
This is the main gathering place for Spark of Reason. Ask questions, share your story or post something that made you think. Deism, God, nature, reason, prayer, the afterlife, morality, history and daily life are all welcome. Interesting article or personal observation? Share it. You never need to wonder where your post belongs. If it encourages thoughtful conversation, it belongs here. Not sure how to begin? Complete this sentence: “I believe in a Creator, but I still wonder…” Ask honestly. Listen openly. Treat people respectfully. We’re glad you’re here.
Is Nature God’s Only Book?
NASA is getting ready to launch a powerful new telescope. It will help us learn more about planets, stars and the universe. Deists believe we can learn about God through reason and nature not through one holy book. So, if God created the universe, is science helping us read the only book God actually wrote? And as science explains more about nature, does it make belief in a Creator stronger or maybe less necessary? What do you think, and why?

Where Do You See the Creator?
For many Deists, nature is where belief in a Creator begins. It might be the order of the universe, the complexity of life, human consciousness or a quiet moment beneath the night sky. What have you observed in nature that strengthens—or challenges—your belief in a Creator? Share one example. A photograph is welcome too.

What Question Wouldn’t Go Away?
The question I could never completely dismiss was: How can only one religion have the truth when so many religions make different claims about God? That question eventually led me toward Deism. What question caused you to examine—or reexamine—what you had been taught about God and religion?

Before You Knew the Word “Deism”
Before discovering Deism, I would often say: “I know there is a God. I just don’t know exactly who—or what—God is.” I didn’t have a name for what I believed. I only knew that organized religion no longer provided answers I could honestly accept. Before you discovered Deism, how did you describe your belief in God? There is no wrong answer. Tell us in your own words.
