One Floor Short
The elevator stopped
one floor short.
No one pressed anything.
It just… paused.
The doors stayed closed.
The light above the panel didn’t change.
No voice.
No explanation.
Four of us inside,
standing in practiced stillness—
eyes forward,
hands occupied,
as if movement might
make it worse.
