Cleaning and prep
Before working on anything believe me your going to want to clean it. Not just soaking, ultrasonic, and steamer but way more clean so that your torch won't burn anything that may interfere with the solder running through your weld. How can you tell if a piece with stones is good to go? Are the stones heat resistant? Do any prongs need retip or rebuilt? Will any stones come out the second or first half hour it's soaking? What to do in every single scenario that involves handling used jewelry.

Ring sizing and repair.
This is a universal necessity service for one of the highest demanded commodities in precious metals. Involves cutting, sawing, sanding, welding, and polishing the material. In all those steps there's refining that can be done to extract the gold from each step in a long term process that I will be breaking down from start to finish. The many different ways it can be done most efficiently with and without cutting into the ring. Avoiding stones to become loosened throughout the process as well.

Going against the grain
The term originates from woodworking. To cut "against the grain" means to move a blade in the opposite direction of the wood's natural fiber growth, making the work harder and causing the wood to splinter. Here it is referred to the sanding and polishing part of the repair where most jewelers struggle and end up thinning out the metal. Knowing when to stop and start a different approach. The different kinds of buffing wheels and felt pads. Difference between Tripoli, rouge, and blue compounds.

Watch battery and links
Well I always loved watches but not so much at making them. These tools are completely different. It's kind enough for watchmakers to let us jewelers use their tools. The different backs, water proof seals, links, and of course, button batteries. Be aware of the extra fine luxorious watches worth more than everything you own put together. What to charge for a battery that costs less than a dollar. Links that have different kinds of pins holding everything together including sleeves in between.

Quarter and a half shank
This happens when the customer has gone elsewhere to do their sizing and they thinned out the bottom of the ring. I've done so many different kinds of these. I spoiled that request a little too much and got well known for that comfort upgrade because it will add an additional comfort barrier when you put the ring on. Added metal will increase the weight so that it falls on the bottom portion protecting your mounting in case of a drop of over 5 feet. Athletes or weight lifters need sturdy shank.
