Hello Cactus Cauldron Community, I wanted to share an important update about the direction of The Cactus Cauldron Network and some of the changes you may be noticing in our courses, resources, and upcoming offerings. As CCN has developed, I've been taking a closer look at what belongs at the heart of this community. Rather than trying to cover an ever-expanding range of nature and homesteading subjects, I'm tightening our focus around three areas that offer tremendous opportunities for meaningful learning and exploration: Garden Design • Herbalism • Birds This more focused direction will allow CCN to go deeper rather than simply broader. Garden Design will explore how we create thoughtful, beautiful, useful, and ecologically aware spaces—from specialty and wildlife gardens to planting design, native plants, garden planning, and the practical skills involved in bringing a garden to life. Herbalism will explore our relationships with useful plants through responsible cultivation, identification, harvesting, preparation, history, and traditional and contemporary herbal practices, with appropriate attention to safety and the limits of educational information. Birds will bring us further into the living landscape through bird identification, behavior, observation, habitat, seasonal changes, gardening for birds, conservation, and the skills that make us more attentive birders and naturalists. These subjects are also wonderfully interconnected. A thoughtfully designed garden can become habitat. The plants we grow can support both people and wildlife. Watching birds can teach us a remarkable amount about the landscapes we create and how those landscapes function. As part of this transition, some previously planned offerings may be revised, consolidated, postponed, or removed when they no longer fit this clearer direction. Other ideas will be redesigned so they connect more meaningfully with one of our three core areas. This isn't about making CCN smaller in spirit. It's about giving the community a stronger identity and creating room to explore these subjects with considerably more depth.
