Heads Up: No Live Class This Week
Hey Crew, Quick heads up — no live class this week. My girlfriend's great aunt passed and her funeral is tomorrow morning. Original plan was to leave tonight, but we're heading out in the next 45 minutes so we can help with setup in the morning. She wants to be there for her family, and I want to be there for her. I'm still figuring out the rhythm of these 8-week Academies. The books were built as a self-learner process, but I want to be more involved than that. Right now the setup is showing its limits. I'll be using this weekend to work on making the process more consistent moving forward. — Dan
Some context for the Crew
Hey everyone — wanted to give you the real reason this week has been slower than usual. Two weeks ago, a piece of footage I was planning to build an "Ensure Your Own Safety" video around got hit with a copyright strike on the channel. It was a rescue-response clip — genuinely some of the best teaching material I've seen for how to approach a downed rider correctly. Calm bystander, scene safety first, methodical patient assessment. I had real plans for it. I fought it through the proper channels — polite request, then a substantive case with a deadline. On Monday the strike was retracted. I then voluntarily edited the remaining footage out as part of the resolution. So where things stand: The matter is closed. No active strikes on the channel. Cleanly resolved. The footage I wanted to use is off the table for that video. I'll find a way to teach the same lesson using different material — the lesson matters more than any specific clip. The delay is real. Between the legal work and the editing and the verification, it pulled time away from the production schedule I had planned. The "Ensure Your Own Safety" video gets pushed. This week is a recovery week. Regular content cadence picks back up next week. Appreciate your patience. Ride safe. Dan
Week 1 · Foundation
Livestream tomorrow! Week 1 Objectives By the end of this week, every rider should: - Know the five SMART Rider Principles and five RIDER Values by name and definition - Have the minimum protective gear identified and on-hand (full-face helmet, gloves, covered arms, long pants, above-ankle boots) - Identify every primary and secondary motorcycle control by touch and function - Execute the full startup and shutdown sequence from memory - Understand the RESQ framework at an overview level (what it is, why it exists) No motorcycle operation required this week. Foundation is classroom-equivalent: knowledge, gear, mindset, RESQ awareness.
