What's up Crew! Here's what went down today:
π¬ SMART RIDER DRILLS β FILMED!
I went out yesterday and filmed the Basic Control, Advanced Control, AND Master Control certifications. My own certification submission is done. πͺ We watched the Basic Control videos together during the meeting β the U-Turn Proficiency and the Figure Eight Proficiency. These are first-draft edits, but you can check them out now (links in the video description). Advanced and Master Control videos are being edited and coming your way soon.
πΉ HOW FILMING & SUBMISSIONS WORK
Quick reminder β one camera on a tripod at the front of your course is all you need. Keep it continuously running, no cuts. Your phone can stay on the handlebars so you can reference the drill designs. You don't need a fancy setup. Film it, submit it, get certified.
β
CERTIFICATION RULES REFRESHER
Three things that constitute a failure: dropping the bike, hitting a cone, or not completing the drill as designed. Speed is NOT graded. You get 3 attempts per drill. And here's the thing β you can be creative with your lines. Go wide, take weird paths, do your thing. As long as you follow the design (go around the right cones in the right order), don't hit anything, and don't drop the bike, you're good.
π PRODUCTION UPDATE β 37 DAYS TO GO
We're at 23% on the production checklist. Drills are filmed. Next up: Street Strategies (PLAN method, neighborhood riding, city riding, highway, night riding, etc.) and RESQ filming with the training dummy. Goal is to get everything filmed and edited before the May 1st Academy launch.
π RESQ CLASS RECAP
Last Thursday I taught a RESQ class to Arizona Motorcycle Tours & Training staff. Brought the dummy, went over tourniquets and the trauma kit, covered the basics β remain calm, ensure scene safety, stop major bleeds. Finished the teaching in about 30-45 minutes and then hung out for another hour and a half just talking. Proof of concept β this stuff works and people want it.
π UPDATED DRILL BOOKLET COMING
I'm working on an updated phone-friendly drill booklet with cleaner layouts, better cone visuals, and QR codes that actually link to the right videos. Removing the old time-based runs β this is about certification, not speed. First draft coming to you this week so you can start practicing.
π§ TRIKE DISCUSSION
We talked about whether the drills need to be adjusted for trikes and bigger bikes. Arizona doesn't appear to have different skills test dimensions for three-wheelers, so that's something I can customize down the road. Even on a big bagger, these drills are challenging at 20ft β so the standard course works for everyone right now.
Crew gets everything first. Academy in 37 days. Let's go. π€
