Is It Really Super?
Tossing a new one into the Skoolroom. Opened this last night after getting back from NY. Still on an Italian kick. This is a Super Tuscan from Bolgheri.
Get your maps out. Bolgheri is very close to the coast, west of Chianti. Part of the Livorno province. For those that don’t know, the region popularized red wines in Italy made in a Bordeaux style blend. The first were commercialized in the 70s and 80s. Some famous, delicious, big bottlings (that need a big bank account) like Sassicaia, Tignanello and Ornellaia, got the wine world’s attention.
My wine is not one of those! However, it was/is a very nice drop as the Brits say. A classic blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, but it doesn’t taste like a Bordeaux. It’s all about the terroir.
See if you can find a Super Tuscan that fits your budget. I think you’ll like it! Maybe try to do a side-by-side of a Super Tuscan and a Bordeaux that have similar blends? 🍷
