Should I have questions and collect emails?

Just noticing that a few groups over joined on here have entry questions even if they're free to join and ask for an email address. And you can t join unless all boxes are filled

Should I be doing this?

Do you automatically add the email to your mailing list as we have to ask permission to contact people here in the UK, GDPR states them filling their email address isn't enough they have to opt in and have the choice not to. Just wondering how to navigate this?
