Dad- Coach
For any dads coaching their kids team, when was the first time you realize you have to separate yourself from being coach to dad?
I start with me, one day after practice I was getting on my son for not practicing hard enough and being immature (granted my son was 9). I am a former athlete myself, played division 1, coached high school for 15 years so i thought I knew what it takes to be good at the sport. My son obviously upset said he would not play anymore then I realized that it was unfair to him that I made practice all about him. What I learned was in the drive home I was no longer coach but dad so I had to leave everything on the field. On that day, I decided to only talk about the game in practice and game and only talk about other stuff like school in the car. That really helped the both of us. What was your Haha moment?
