I've done many challenges, programs, and routines to grow in all areas of my life for the last 5 years. From atomic habits to 75 Hard, I've sought out and have done my best to implement all things to help me grow. Although each program can work and help you succeed, the one thing that these challenges & programs didn't teach me was how to embrace restarting.
I've had to restart many things over and over again, and at first I had a very negative association towards it. I used to think that restarting was a very bad thing and it meant that I lacked commitment or consistency. I also used to think that restarting meant I'm back where I started and I made absolutely no progress. Out of fear of starting over I would avoid failure at all cost to the point of paralysis by analysis. Worst of all, if I ever did mess up I would say "what's the use?" and self sabotage so bad to the point that I did the polar opposite of what I was trying to accomplish in the first place.
However, what I realized is that restarting does not mean starting over from 0. As a matter of fact, once you start making even a small amount of progress it's impossible to start from 0. The reason is that you now have EXPERIENCE. The truth is, every experience is valuable and important for growth no matter how it makes you feel. Since there are always two sides to everything there can always be something good taken out of even the most negative experiences.
The reason this is important to know is because there will be times when you fall short, fail, or compromise (because we're human), and we need to know how to bounce back from a loss quickly and hit the reset button. The way we do that is by understanding that restarting is a part of the process. It's not bad to start over because you're starting from experience, just take whatever lesson is in the mess and evolve from it.
It’s okay if you mess up, but what’s not okay is sitting there and doing nothing... So shake it off, get back up, hit the reset, and get back to it. You got this, I believe in you!
