7 days before I turned 10 my mother got an early morning phone call. I was still in bed but heard the ringing and then a few minutes later there was a loud thud. I jumped out of bed ran to the kitchen to find my mom unconscious on the floor.
The receiver was dangling from the phone mounted on the wall and I could hear a voice calling. When I picked it up it was a doctor from the hospital over a 100 miles away where my father had been taken two weeks earlier. The doctor told me my father had died and then abruptly hung up.
My mother had passed out and a few minutes later came to and our lives changed forever. The following year after attending the Anglican church I invited Jesus into my life. I came to understand that even though I'd lost my earthly father I had a heavenly father who knew everything about me and would never leave me.
"O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD." —PSALM 139:1–4
