Three (Thousand) Is The Magic Number!
What is your magic number of songs in your DJ library? In your DJ software? What are you aiming at? Every time I think about it, 3000 pops up. I want 3000 songs in my DJ library, and that's it. When new songs are added, others have to give, and get removed.
How did I get to that?
I have a wall full of CDs, 2000 of which are cd singles that are sorted and about another 1000 on the floor which still need to be sorted. Never, ever, ever, have I thought of any song that I wanted to play at anytime which wasn't either on the shelf or on the floor. Some of these CDs I never even used.
So apart from the odd requested song, that we can access easily online, how many different songs do we need? I'm going to say, around 250-300 that we always use, and a few others that we move around. As a guess, I'm gonna say, I can do most of my events with almost the same 1000 songs, if I handpick every song that need to stay in my library or someone told me you can only pick a 1000 songs. So I'm thinking if I then look at each song and add an extra 2 songs that will go with that one song, this will probably end up being a very solid DJ library.
What are your thoughts? What's your goal?
